Safeguarding

Training for NVR Practitioners

Delivered in partnership with NVR South, this four-hour training  will explore how safeguarding principles can be embedded effectively within the Nonviolent Resistance (NVR) framework. Delivered across two two-hour sessions, the training aims to equip NVR Practitioners with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to identify safeguarding concerns, assess and respond to risk, and promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and their families.

Through an exploration of relevant safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and practice-based scenarios, participants will consider how safeguarding responsibilities can be incorporated throughout NVR interventions. Together we will explore how practitioners can uphold their safeguarding responsibilities while remaining true to the core principles of NVR, including nonviolence, parental presence, de-escalation and supportive resistance.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Understanding the Framework: Exploring the relationship between safeguarding principles, statutory responsibilities and the core values of NVR.

  • Training and Education: Developing practitioners’ knowledge of safeguarding legislation, guidance, thresholds and procedures relevant to their roles.

  • Risk Assessment and Response: Identifying potential risks, recognising indicators of harm, and considering proportionate safeguarding responses within NVR practice.

  • Monitoring and Review: Understanding the importance of ongoing risk monitoring, recording concerns, reviewing interventions and adapting plans as circumstances change.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Strengthening multi-agency working, information sharing and communication with families and professionals to support effective safeguarding.

Using reflective discussion and practical scenarios, the course will help practitioners apply safeguarding principles to real-world situations, supporting safe, ethical and effective NVR practice.
