Resisting Distance
Nonviolent Resistance as Alternative Dispute Resolution
Our Adaptation of the NVR Approach for when there are Parent-child Contact Problems (PCCPs),
claims of ‘Parental Alienation’ and RRR* Dynamics.
Drawing from our own research, clinical and lived experiences of dysfunctional family systems (enmeshment, estrangement, and coercive control), the NVRnorthampton team have devised a non-adversarial and highly teachable adaptation of NVR to address parent-child contact problems.
We offer this pragmatic, solution-oriented, child-focused and parent-centred programme to families experiencing RRR* problems (whether in family court proceedings or not).
As a whole-network intervention, either or both distressed parents (those experiencing contact refusal and/or those who find themselves suspected of engaging in ‘Parental Alienating Behaviours’) can benefit from broad, coordinated support.
*Reluctance, resistance or refusal (‘RRR’) refers to behaviours by a child concerning their relationship with, or spending time with, a parent, which may have a variety of potential causes. (Family Justice Council Guidance on responding to a child’s unexplained reluctance, resistance or refusal to spend time with a parent and allegations of alienating behaviour, December 2024).
If you are a parent struggling with this knotty and painful child-raising challenge, and can bring integrity and dedication to coordinating resolutions, we’d be delighted to discuss how our programme could assist you.

Weekly Support
Our Evening NVR - 'Beginner's Mind' for PA Online Support Groups provide a space for parents space for parents who are struggling with resistance and rejection dynamics to share and discuss predicaments, and exchange NVR reflections and strategies with practitioners and other parents.
These Support Groups are not our comprehensive NVR parent coaching programme, but they provide interim support for those unable to attend a full NVR group, or awaiting our next full programme. Each gathering also offers the opportunity for those who have completed a full NVR parent training to refresh their grasp of the approach.
