Kerry Shoesmith

Expert on NVR, Trauma, and Residential Settings

Kerry is a seasoned leader in therapeutic care with over 20 years of experience in youth and community work. She began her career in residential childcare in 2000 and has since held roles in both voluntary and statutory services. Prior to her operational role as Director, where she oversaw multiple homes and a therapeutic school, she successfully managed homes, with one achieving six consecutive Outstanding ratings from Ofsted.

In 2010, Kerry earned an MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mental Health, enabling her to provide direct therapeutic interventions and clinical supervision. She has played a key role in shaping therapeutic care planning, focusing on recovery from trauma.

In 2013, Kerry integrated Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) into her practice, guided by Dr. Peter Jakob. Her therapeutic approach combines NVR, CBT, and other modalities. Kerry currently provides NVR and clinical supervision to teams and homes working with children and families, offers individual therapy to looked-after children, and delivers systemic support to families around the child. Additionally, she is the only ReAttach trainer in the UK, continuing to innovate in therapeutic care.
