Al Coates, MBE CF

A Coates is a social worker, qualifying in 2013, and a parent through fostering and adoption to six children.


He has co-authored several publications and reports including Northumbria Police Report April 2020:  Policing Challenging, Violent or Aggressive Behaviour: Responding to Families and Let’s talk about Child to Parent Violence. Al is a Nonviolent Resistance practitioner and work with carers/parents of children with challenging behaviour and train professionals in relation to managing children’s complex and challenging behaviour. 


He founded and runs an online peer support community, Walking with Families, for adoptive parents living with CPV. 


He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2024 for international study into models of managing behaviour and supporting parents and carers.
